Hello stampers. I have a feeling that many of you are paper hoarders like me. When you find paper that you really love, it is so hard to use it because then it is gone!! That is why I love a great background technique. No worries about using it all up because you can always make more. It is even better when that technique is super simple AND cheap to boot. This “baby wipe swipe” technique is just that. It is super simple using just a baby wipe cut into three equal pieces, three ink pads and whisper white cardstock. This is not an original idea of mine, I saw it on Lyssa Zwolanek’s blog here. She has a ton of great technique ideas complete with instructions.
I used Colorful Seasons as well but decided not to use the sand on my card. It is just such a beautiful “clean and simple” card and perfect for this time of year when some people are getting cabin fever and dreaming of a day (or a week!) at the beach. I also used the new Stamparatus which makes it super easy to line up perfectly. If you did not pre-order one in December you will be able to order it in the new annual catalog in June.
In case you do not recognize the saying on this card, it is from the retired card kit called Watercolour Wishes. I still have some in stock if you are interested! The colours I used on this card are sahara sand, bermuda bay and soft sky. The chair is melon mambo and early espresso.
This branch used to be so difficult to stamp with the flowers! With the new Stamparatus it is a dream! The birds and the grass are from High Tide. The grass is stamped in crumb cake. The branch combines both the stamp and the framelit from Colorful Seasons. I decided not to add a sentiment so it can be used for any occasion.
I tried using the High Tide set at my technique club but it was an epic fail even with the Stamparatus!! The problem was poor lighting and bad staining on my lighthouse stamps, so I decided to trim them and it worked! By trimming them I was able to align them a lot better. The Baby Wipe Swipe technique just involves pressing the edge of a baby wipe into the ink pad and then swiping it across the whisper white cardstock. It does not seem to harm the ink pad at all, but after doing about a dozen cards or so you might want to re-ink your ink pad. I will include a video at the end so you can better see how this technique works.
I think this might just be my favourite card with this technique. I love, love, love the colours and the fact that it evokes such a peaceful, tranquil feeling. I used soft suede, garden green and marina mist for the swiping and old olive for the tree and early espresso for the sentiment. The tree is from the old favourite Lovely as a Tree and the saying is from the new set Waterfront. I predict that this new set is going to be a classic as well.
I like this card as well, but it almost covers the background technique. The sentiment is from the January Paper Pumpkin. Did you know that if you get a three month Paper Pumpkin subscription you will also get a free sale-a-bration item? I am also loving the ink spots that you get in your monthly Paper Pumpkin, they work so well with the Stamparatus.
This last card was born from a mistake. I didn’t like how my card front turned out, the layering of the different trees just didn’t work. I should have taken a picture! I had tried to place the oak tree in front of this line of trees and it just didn’t look right at all. So I decided to salvage some of my art work and I used it on this card to great effect. I unwrapped my new Tailored Tag punch that is part of the True Gentleman suite and it all came together rather nicely. I love “embellishment opportunities”, don’t you?
I hope you have as much fun with this technique as I did. Here is the video. Have a super weekend!!

Love watching what you do Jackie ❤️ I have learned such a lot from you, Brenda from Australia xxx
Thanks so much Brenda!! It is very reassuring to see that people are reading and using this blog. I don’t want to be posting into thin air. I know Facebook is a great place for interacting, this blogging business is still quite new to me.
I commented on your FB post, but when I tried to like the post here it wants me to sign in. I don’t care for that feature since I’m already inundated with stuff from other websites. But that said, I love what you share with us. Glad I found your website long ago.
that must have been an error Adele, I agree, I wouldn’t want to do that either, there is already way too much to wade through in the inbox. Thanks for taking the time to comment!! I appreciate it.
I love these cards and this technique. I also pinned this for future reference. I follow you on Facebook and always watch your sweet and to the point videos, they have been very helpful to this Tennessee demo.
I appreciate that very much Janet! I was just debating whether Facebook was enough or if this blog is indeed helpful. This helps.
Please don’t stop blogging Jackie, I love watching you and I have learnt so much. Love what you do. Robyn in Perth, Western Australia.
Awwww, thanks so much Robyn, your comment means so much to me.
I love your facebook and blog. You are very talented. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so very much Ina for commenting. I love to share what I love and I learn so much from all of you and from other demonstrators too. Stampin’Up makes it easy.
Love your blog. I find reading blogs much more fun that facebook.
Thanks so much Cindy, that is very helpful information to me. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I always love reading a blog especially when it includes some information about the project you’re working on or any hints.
Thanks Maureen, that is so good to know. I am thinking to start regularly including recipes of the treats that we have at coffee and a card. Do you like that idea?
Your cards and videos are gorgeous Jackie.
To be honest , and that’s what you asked for on Facebook, I do not read blogs anymore.
I had or have one of myself, a few followers but I don’t have or take the time anymore to read blogs.
All I want or search is placed on Facebook postings or YouTube.
Blog reading is, just as the 2 things above , very time consuming….
time I’d better spent at my own SU business or just having fun stamping…
That’s why I skipped the blogs.
I have to search for them, and on Facebook, it just scrolls before my eyes…
Hope you don’t think I’m cruel, my English is not a 100% , so I tried to explain it as good as possible.
I DO love your projects, and I’m a subscriber for your YouTube channel.
The only reason I’m posting here, is because you asked for it on Facebook.
Wilma from the Netherlands. ( that’s where your grandparents came from I think? )
Thanks so much Wilma, that is very good feedback and your English is excellent! Yes, my parents were born in the Netherlands and I still have lots of family there. I wasn’t seeking for praise just trying to find out where my time is best spent. This helps.
I just love your cards…my favorite was the one with Lovely as a Tree…The swipe method was new to me and I loved how you take your time for us slow learners…lol…
Thanks Betty, I really like that one too. I prefer the term “visual learners” to slow learners. It makes all the difference to see it in action. I am the same way!
the video isn’t there.
Thanks for letting me know!! No idea what happened there, and when I look on my YouTube channel it isn’t there either, so I have posted a link to the video on my Facebook page, hope it works. Have a super day Debbie.
