Honey Bee Joy-Fold Card

Hello stampers and happy Thursday to you. Today I have a lovely joy-fold card for you with some happy honey bees. I think the name of this fold is totally appropriate as it really does give me a lot of joy. We made this card at our Fab Four event, but I have since embellished it even more. My apologies to everyone who made the simpler version, but now you might be inspired to amp yours up too.

Joy-Fold Card

How exactly do you make a joy-fold card? Well, you start with a slightly different card base. Instead of a 4 /4″ by 11″ card scored at 5 1/2″ you do that but then cut off 2 3/4″. My base is made out of crushed curry cardstock. Take some pretty Golden Honey paper and cut a piece of the honeycomb print 4″ by 5 1/4″ and adhere that to the inside of the card. Cut a piece of basic black cardstock 3″ by 8″ and score at 4″. Burnish with a bone folder and with the fold to the right put adhesive on the back and adhere to the centre of the honeycomb print.

The Inside of the Card

On the inside flap adhere black honeycomb paper measuring 2 1/2″ by 4″. Open the black folded cardstock. On the right hand side adhere golden bee and honey comb print paper measuring 3 3/4″ by 2 3/4″. Take a piece of whisper white the same size and  stamp a small honey bee in the left hand bottom corner.  Stamp “wishing you sunshine and happiness” on the top right. On a scrap of whisper white stamp the honeycomb in versamark and heat emboss with gold emboss powder. Cut out with die and adhere under the sentiment.

Honey Bee Joy-Fold card open

Fold the black cardstock piece closed. On the outside adhere a piece of black and gold bee and floral paper measuring 3 3/4″ by 2 3/4″. Punch a scallop heart out of black foil paper. Using I’ll Be Yours Paper Pumpkin stamp (the heart with love), stamp on a scrap of white and punch out with heart punch. Stamp small bee from Paper Pumpkin set off to the side of the heart in crushed curry. Adhere to black foil scalloped heart with dimentionals. Stamp “celebrate every moment” on a scrap of white and cut out just the word “celebrate”, and cut a notch in it by the “C”. Tuck this under the heart using a glue dot. Adhere to the right of front panel. Tie a piece of black satin ribbon around the left edge of this panel.

Back of Joy-Fold card

When you close the crushed curry card you have a small section of plain cardstock. Lay the card completely flat and then stamp small honey bees randomly over this section. Cut out a large intricate bee using the die with black foil paper. Adhere to this section going slightly off the edge as shown. On the back of the card I added a 4″ by 5 /4″ piece of whisper white cardstock. Along the top edge I added a piece of patterned paper 1/2″ by 5 /4″ and I stamped some bees in the bottom corner. The small bee is from the Paper Pumpkin set and the bigger one is from Honey Bee.

Wow, that is a lot of instructions!!! I hope the photos make it all clear for you. Normally I don’t get into this kind of detail on my blog. Let me know what you think of this. I would rather just do a video and show you how it is done. Here is a great tutorial from Splitcoaststampers that you might find very helpful (I should have just shared this and saved myself a lot of work!!)

My Wonderful Tribe

I just have to share some great things about the people that I am surrounded with, they are such a blessing to me. First a little background information. On Monday I injured my back, not so much that I couldn’t move, but enough to seriously slow me down. Tuesday after coffee and a card class my tribe mobilized. One fantastic woman swept my stamp room while another vacuumed all the rugs and the kitchen. Wednesday a customer’s husband stopped by for his wife’s order and he brought my garbage can in from the road. Those little things mean so much and my heart is full.

#itsthelittlethings

Last week a stamp club member brought me this super cute bowl because it coordinates perfectly with our Honey Bee suite. She added an adorable Burt’s Bees lip shimmer and wrapped it in cellophane and added an embossed bee embellishment and honeycomb ribbon. Wow!!! I am feeling the love.

honey bee bowl

In case you are wondering, the cute bee comes from the retired set Backyard Basics. The bee was embossed with our shimmery black embossing powder. You might want to get it now because I just happen to know that it will NOT be in the annual catalog. The shimmery white embossing powder is also retiring.

What I also love about this is that it shows that you can use your stamps not just for card making. The stamped embellishment and the coordinating ribbon really makes this gift even more thoughtful.

Thanks!

Mindful Gratitude

Hello stampers. Mindful gratitude. Think about that for a moment and really let it sink in. How often do we practice mindful gratitude? I know that for me it can go in spurts, but when I practice it, I am so much happier. Gratitude transforms us. It can transform the world around us as well because gratitude is contagious. Just like smiles.

Mindful Gratitude for our Veterans

I am planning a very meaningful project that will help us exercise mindful gratitude for our veterans and their families. May 5 is Liberation Day in the Netherlands and this year will be the 75th anniversary. If you have ever had the chance to go to Europe to see some of the battlefields of either of the world wars, you know how what a moving experience it is. We have not had war on Canadian soil since 1812, so we have no idea how a peaceful countryside can turn into bloodsoaked soil, how cities and villages can be laid to ruin in a moment. Our freedom came at a high price and I would love to thank our veteran community in a tangible way.

If you want to read more about how our troops were involved in the World War 2 liberation of the Netherlands, you can read about it here.

A Tangible Thank You

When I saw the Peaceful Poppies stamp set from Stampin’Up! I was immediately inspired to use it to thank our veterans. I wanted to do something big, something that would involve our entire community and maybe even inspire other people to do something similar.

This has now become an official project!! You can join in too. On Saturday April 25 from ten am till noon you can make up to ten cards or a journal. There will be cards for varying skill levels so you can choose which cards to make. The important part will be what you write inside, a heartfelt thank you for the sacrifice that was made for us. If you have personal memories of that time there will be small journals that you can share your stories in and even put in pictures if you like.

I will be going to Holland to attend the festivities as  will the Chatham Pipe Band, so there will be lots of people to help distribute the cards and journals. Let’s see how many we can make! Here  are the cards for you to see.

Honour and Remember

Hello stampers and happy Tuesday to you. I’m finally writing my daily blog post, some back issues have slowed me down a bit today. Honour and Remember is the name of the project that I am hoping to engage the community in to add a personal touch to the 75th anniversary of the World War 2 Liberation of the Netherlands by the Allies. Our Canadian soldiers played a huge part in this liberation effort and many of them or their families will be attending festivities in the Netherlands in May. I plan to be there too.

Honour and Remember

Since this event took place seventy five years ago, it is highly likely that many of our veterans are no longer alive. Their families will be there to represent them and it is my hope that we can give these family members visible tokens of our appreciation. This can be in the form of a hand made card or a journal with stories and photos. How wonderful would it be if we could get a card or a journal to each person there?

The power of a handwritten note and a shared story is incredible. If you have stories that you would like to share, please send them to me and I will include them in a journal. You are also welcome to send photos along with your stories. I am flying to the Netherlands on April 29. The community event will be on Saturday April 25 from 10am till noon.

The Cards

Here are the cards that we will be making. Some are meant for beginners and some are meant for those who like to so more detailed work.

Honour and Remember

Tomorrow I will post all the cards individually so you can have a closer look at them. I used the notecards and envelopes to make it extra easy for everyone.

Thanks!

Thanks for joining me today, I appreciate you. If you don’t already have a demonstrator, I would be over the moon happy if you ordered from me! Of course there is a spot waiting for you on my team as well. Be sure to check out all the new saleabration offerings that became available today. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Under My Umbrella

Hello stampers and happy Monday to you. I am a hopeless romantic. Under My Umbrella appeals to my romantic side…so much. It is totally unrealistic, but the image of a man in a suit and a woman in a fifties style dress together under an umbrella with a classic city scape in the background just makes me swoon. The reality is probably quite different. Bumping each other, trying to stay dry under the umbrella. The wind catching the umbrella and turning it inside out, no one really staying dry.

Under My Umbrella

I am going to cling to my romantic notions of the umbrella, and while I create with this set my heart will be very happy indeed. Of course any time there is a coordinating punch with a stamp set, that also makes my heart happy. It means that I don’t have to get up to go and use a die with the Big Shot, I can stay right where I am and punch out my image very quickly. Do you love that too? I have a pair of bright red rubber boots and a black and red umbrella that make me feel very light hearted in the rain. Everyone should have them I think. Don’t let the rain keep you inside!

Under My Umbrella

Adorable Rubber Boots

What makes Under My Umbrella so charming is the cute rubber boots that also come in this set. The Pleased as Punch make the stamp and set and coordinating punch even more appealing. Here is the card that I made with it. I would love to make more, right now in fact, but then I will never get this blog post finished. What I will do instead for you is give you the link for my Google search which will show you ALL the creative things that Stampin’Up! demonstrators have done with this bundle all around the world. Just click here.

Under My Umbrella

Do you see that pretty pink gingham background? That is also paper from the Pleased as Punch pack. I am going to be making this card tomorrow at coffee and a card class and again during my Facebook live video Tuesday night at 7pm EST. Here are all three cards so you can see what to expect. It is raining today, so these cards are a perfect harbinger for spring.

Under My Umbrella, Timeless Tulips and Thoughtful Blooms

Tomorrow I will blog about the Healing Hugs card and maybe one more if I find the time. I am thinking I need someone to do all the other things in life so that I can just stamp and share all day long. Hmmmm, nice dream right?

Free Tutorial

Every month I offer a different free tutorial as part of the Demo Design Dream Team. You can get it for free by ordering from me ($50 minimum) by joining my team or my training group. Here is a sneak peek of this sixteen project beauty.

A Personal Story

I promised you on Friday that I would share a story with you about why I love winter so much. The biggest reason I think for this is that I grew up on a dairy farm in southern Ontario near Elora. Winters are cozy on the farm with all the animals in the barn, a haymow full of straw and hay and adorable kittens and coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the kitchen. Our farm was also situated on a fantastic tobogganing hill which was a magnet for local kids. Every year right before Christmas the entire elementary school would walk down the road to go sledding on our hill. My mom would make huge pans of hot cocoa in our farmhouse basement for all the kids and I am sure there were cookies to go with it too. After everyone left there was a great tobogganing track for us to use for the rest of the Christmas vacation.

A Farm Kid

You see, there were lots of great winter memories for me as a kid. Winter meant fun and gezelligheid (a great Dutch word for coziness, comfort, ambiance and community) Summer on the other hand meant hard work. It meant picking stones, baling hay and straw, milking cows in a hot barn with lots of pesky flies. Summer meant weeding the garden, mowing the lawn, cleaning the house, picking strawberries and raspberries and beans. It did NOT mean beaches and camping. I didn’t learn to swim until I was 12!! Summer also meant a hot upstairs bedroom with no air conditioning. You can see why this season was not my favourite.

Contrast Inspired by Muskoka

I was reminded of this contrast when reading a coffee table book about Muskoka which contrasted the experience of the farm kids and the cottage kids. It’s all a matter of perspective! When summer means swimming, campfires and hanging out with friends it is idyllic. When it means hard work, sweat and staying home, it’s a different situation entirely.  The first time I got to go camping for a week with a friend totally changed my perspective on what summer could be like. Oh the joy!!

We used to go swimming at Elora Gorge Conservation Area once in a while with my mom. When we were done swimming mom would drive through the campground so that we could see the tents and the campers and smell the smoke from the campfires. It was so nice to dream of doing that one day. After I was married we camped all the time and my parents were even able to join us a few times, so Mom’s dream of camping finally came true!

I am thankful for growing up on a farm though. It meant sharing every meal around the kitchen table. We didn’t always have a lot of money, but we always had lots of fresh food and I learned the value of hard work. My parents taught me that you can have big dreams that can come true if you put in the effort. They taught me to start the day with God and end the day with Him. Another lesson was to never have a naked cup of coffee and to always make soup with bones for a good broth. Both were shared with whoever had business on the farm. Mom was known for her amazing soup and her unbeatable coffee and I hope to carry on this tradition.

Thanks

Thanks for joining me on this walk through memory lane. I am so happy to be a Canadian where we can enjoy all four seasons. Find the joy in each one. I am learning to embrace summer. Air conditioning helps a lot with that, so does my brother’s humble cottage in Point Clark. Stamping and paper crafting is also a great way to make it through the seasons we don’t like as much.

Pleased As Punch

Hello stampers and happy Friday to you.  Does the title Pleased as Punch have you intrigued? Well, of course I am pleased as punch that my private class last night with a group of newbies was such a success, but this post is about some pretty awesome paper. The reason it is called Pleased as Punch is that it coordinates with four, yes four! different punches and stamp sets. I love that! It is also fresh and bright and oozes springtime, which is just what we are starting to love for at the end of February.

Pleased as Punch

Yesterday I did a short video showing you all the coordination that is possible with this beautiful Pleased as Punch paper. You can see it here if you missed it on my Facebook page The Pampered Stamper. This paper coordinates with the following bundles:

  1. Timeless Tulips
  2. Heartfelt
  3. Under My Umbrella
  4. Thoughtful Blooms (a free saleabration offering)

Timeless Tulips Card

Here is my first card (no time to make the rest yet) that you can also make at coffee and a card on Tuesday, or you can watch me make it during my Facebook live Tuesday night. This is NOT a Jackie original. I totally cased this beauty from Lynn Dunn, and you can see her card and lots of other great ones here. I rarely case cards for my blog but this one was perfect for my needs and sometimes life happens.

Pleased as Punch with Timeless Tulips

Pleased as Punch

Pleased as Punch

All the sentiments come from Timeless Tulips and I love them all. Great font and also perfect for the banners that I think work so well on so many cards. Sentiments were stamped in pear pizzazz. The tulips and the leaves are simply punched out of the paper. I think the polka dot tulle ribbon is an ideal match for this card, it reminds me of spring and pretty girls’ dresses and hair bows. Nostalgia!

Stitched Nested Labels

I figured I better put the name of those great dies in big letters so you don’t miss it! That is what I used for the background behind these tulips. This is a fantastic product that I think every stamper should own. If you want to see another great use for these dies, check out this popular blog post for a very unique card.

Did you know that you can do a search on my blog? If you want to see more cards that I have made with the stitched nested labels, just type it in the search box and hit enter. What a great feature to help you in your creativity.

Happy Mail Contest

You might get sick of me, but I am going to keep asking for cards for Gerard! The last happy mail contest was so much fun and I am even more excited about this one, because it will be such a surprise for him. There is something in it for you too of course. Everyone who sends him a card will get a chance to win a masculine stamp set of your choice out of the mini catalog. I will also blog about your card and do a video of Gerard opening all of them. How much fun is that?

Here’s the address:  Gerard van der Sar, c/o Jackie Bultje 81 Delaware Avenue, Chatham, Ontario N7L 2W3.
