Emboss Resist: A Tried and True Technique

Hello stampers and happy Wednesday. Oh the magic of embossing! While this was one of the first techniques I learned, even before the die cutting machine, emboss resist takes it to a new level. Today I am going to show you two emboss resist cards that are very simple to do and very different in their finished look.

Emboss Resist

When you do an emboss resist card you start by embossing your image, usually in white but other colours work as well. Depending on which cardstock you used, you can either sponge ink over top of your embossed image or you can do a colour wash with an aqua painter over your image. With today’s cards I used a sponge and ink. If you watch my daily Facebook live videos at 3pm then you have seen me make this first sunflower card.

Echoing the Colours of Yesterday

I loved the colour combination so much from yesterday’s Bargello technique cards that I decided to replicate it on this card. Why not make the sunflowers funky rather than realistic? It is amazing how the card looks completely different just by switching up the colours and changing the shape of the sentiment. What I really like about both of these cards is the addition of a spattering of water droplets. You could use a toothbrush to do this but I had a flat brush that I use for brushing away excess embossing powder. Just wet the brush and then give it a sharp flick so that you get a few water droplets falling on your card. They leave a great watermark which you can then accentuate with frosted or clear epoxy droplets.

The Video

If you would rather see the technique rather than reading about it, check out this video. I am really enjoying hearing where everyone is from and watching the community grow. It would be great to hear from YOU. What do you like about the videos or my blog? The more interaction there is between me and my readers and viewers the more likely you will see and read what you want to. A great example of that was yesterday’s video. Someone had requested sympathy cards, so that is what I made.

Brightly Gleaming Trio

Hello stampers! Here is my Brightly Gleaming trio of cards that I made yesterday at my weekly coffee and a card class. Many of you probably know by now that I also do a weekly Facebook live video called Coffee and a Card Revisited. In this live video we create the cards made at class that morning and I share any tips gleaned from that experience.

Something New

Not everyone has the time or desire to make cards but that doesn’t mean that they can’t have them to keep or give away! I am starting something new. Starting today you can purchase the cards already made. I will mail them anywhere in the world. How wonderful is that? If you are a demonstrator you can use these cards for your own class when you are pressed for time. A little instant gratification is so nice once in a while.

The Cards

If you click on the buy now button you will get these three cards sent to you completely made unless you stipulate otherwise. If you prefer to do your own colouring, or if you want to put it together yourself, that is also an option. Please allow a week before mailing.

Feedback

I would love to hear what you think about the Facebook live videos. The time may be tweaked a little. I’m finding that perhaps 7:30pm is a better time for both myself and viewers. It gives me more time to enjoy a leisurely supper. I am also curious if the lighting is sufficient. If you missed yesterday’s Facebook live, you can see it here.

Thanks for joining me today! Just a heads up that next week Tuesday is my Pap’s 93rd birthday so I might do a short live video from his house just so you all get to meet this amazing man. No regular live video though. Coffee and a card class will also be postponed until Thursday.

Facebook Live Play Session

Hello stampers. Did you know that I am now doing a regular Facebook live every Tuesday at 7pm EST? I am calling it Coffee and a Card revisited since I make all three cards from Coffee and a Card class that morning. I’ve done it twice now and I am really loving it. Last night the third card I made used Pigment Sprinkles. After I showed how I made my original card there was a lot of interaction and suggestions and the result was some different cards which I will share with you today. Facebook live is the next best thing to actually coming to a class. It’s even better when it turns into a play session! Thanks to everyone who joined me last night. If you missed it, you can still catch it here.

First I will show you the card with the three little silhouette children. We decided in class that it was better without the squirrel. He simply didn’t fit the theme or the look. What do you think? The so saffron layer is 3 3/4″ by 5″. You add the tree branch after you put the saffron layer on the blueberry bushel card. Trim off the excess tree by turning the card over first.

The next card uses only the gorgeous grape pigment sprinkles. When I did this one of my viewers immediately spotted the face of a bear. She is so right!!

Facebook live card using gorgeous grape pigment sprinkles

The next card used two colours of pigment sprinkles, mango melody and granny apple green.

You can mix two colours of pigment sprinkles on a D block before spritzing with water and "stamping" on the card.

We noticed last night during the Facebook live that the colour of the pigment sprinkles doesn’t first match the colour on the lid. But when you add water the magic happens! I embossed the sentiment in shimmer black embossing powder as well. I wasn’t sure if it work well for words, but it does indeed.

I had made this card at coffee and a card class. Remember that with pigment sprinkles, less is definitely more. For this one I used gorgeous grape, melon mambo and bermuda bay. I love the white space on this card. The sentiment is from the July Paper Pumpkin On My Mind. I matted this one on gorgeous grape for a totally different look.

Facebook Live engagement card

This last card I have dubbed “engagement” card since it was the result of a suggestion from one of my Facebook live viewers Dianne Bazelmans.  She suggested that after sprinkling on the pigment sprinkles and spritzing with water that I drag the block across the paper. I like how it turned out. You do notice that the colours tend to blend together as you go across the page. This girl is swinging before an evening storm. I totally forgot to add the branches but I like it like this as well. I will add a branch later, right now I need to head off to pickleball. I will post it on my Instagram and Facebook for you to check out there.

Thanks ever so much for joining me today. Remember it is the last day for Bonus Bucks today. Spend $60 and get a $6 coupon code to use in August. It’s not huge bucks, but it is a lot better than nothing and it all adds up. Have a super day. (don’t forget to help me out by pinning some of my cards or even sharing this post on social media)
