Hello stampers and happy Monday to you. Did you know that there is a hidden gem in the mini catalog? I am sure that you paged right by it. Go get your holiday catalog right now and flip to page 23 and you will see the Merriest Moments Hybrid Embossing Folder. Blink and you’ll miss it! This beautiful hybrid embossing folder is just what you need to make stunning Christmas cards or home decor, I used it as the focal point for these simple Christmas cards. Isn’t that what we all want? A gorgeous Christmas card that is easy to make and easy to replicate? Look no further!!
Stunning Hybrid Embossing Folder Cards
I made all these cards in very little time. The trick was to cut them out of various colours, stamp the stitched rectangle in a few different colours and then cut out some background pieces out of various patterned papers. Then mix and match and see what looks best. At the very end I decided to add some flat jingle bells tied with linen thread bows.
Here is the red polka dot card up close, so festive don’t you think?
Video Tutorial Tomorrow
Tomorrow I will be offering a video tutorial showing you my process on how I made the different combinations to make these cards. I also find it helpful to see exactly how this hybrid embossing folder works. The video will be posted in my Stories and Stamps playlist which you can find here.

Hello stampers and happy Wednesday to you. Hybrid Embossing Folder. Do you know what this is? Have you tried them? At first I was a little mystified myself, but these beauties cut and emboss at the same time. The die fits inside the embossing folder and with one run through the die cutting machine you accomplish two things. Yesterday I tried it with a brand new one from the 2022 mini catalog.
Hybrid Embossing Folder: Almost Ruined!
Well, I wanted to take this hybrid embossing folder to a new level. I had a baroque theme in mind for my heart card. Originally I was trying to combine the Strong of Heart fundraiser stamp set, but then I went off on a tangent. You see, I love castles and brocade and rich colours. The colours I was using were Real Red and Basic Black. Why not go bold? Guess what I did?
Yes, I inked up the folder in black ink, laid the heart die inside, added my red cardstock and put it through my die cutting machine. Wow! It turned out even better than I thought. Such rich depth of colour and texture, it was beautiful. But there was a definite problem. I could smell the distinct smell of almond extract. I knew right away that I had used Stazon instead of Memento black.
If any of you know about Stazon ink, it stays on!! It is meant to be a permanent ink on fabric, plastic, metal, you name it. I tried rinsing it off. Nope. Tried Stazon cleaner. That worked minimally. Then I got out the big guns: GooGone. That stuff stinks like the dickens, but it worked. I had to use a dish brush and some elbow grease, but my embossing folder is clean again!
Embossing With White Velvet
While we are on a regal, baroque theme, why not add velvet paper into the mix. Now be forewarned, you will never quite get the look that I got on this card. Why? Because no matter how hard I scrubbed and cleaned my embossing folder, there was still some GooGone residue and this transferred to the white velvet paper giving it an authentic vintage look!
Here you can see the lovely detail up close. I am really, really impressed with this hybrid embossing folder.
Strong of Heart Fundraiser Stamp Set
Did you know that Stampin’Up! is donating $4 to heart health for each Strong of Heart stamp set sold? In Canada these funds are going to our very own London Health Sciences Centre. The reason behind this is the tragic story of Anne Granger who lost her husband at the age of 40 to a rare heart condition. You can read about it here.
One More Peek
Can you believe that this was once plain red cardstock? I am just so very impressed with how beautifully this turned out. Ink up your embossing folder with black ink and wowsers!!
The sayings on all of these cards come from the Strong of Heart stamp set. I really hope that you are inspired to purchase this set and help raise money for heart health. It is so wonderful that Stampin’Up! keeps the money that is raised in each country in the same country. Support local!! Thanks for joining me today, as always the links to shop with me are at the end of the blog post. Have a super day.
Hello stampers and happy Saturday. When I saw the Merriest Moments hybrid embossing folder, I thought what the heck is that? The price tag was also a little hefty, so it was not among my first purchases. When I understood the concept of how these two products worked together to create a beautifully detailed and intricate frame I was sold!
Hybrid Embossing Folder
What exactly is a hybrid embossing folder? It is one that is designed to work in tandem with dies. The hybrid embossing folder gives specific, intricate detail to the dies that coordinate with it, allowing you to layer them and to mix and match features. Take a look at what I did with them. Keep in mind that I haven’t even used any of the dies that are included to cut out the various leaves, greenery and poinsettias. There is a ton of possibilities in this bundle!
In this card I have combined Soft Succulent and Basic White cardstock with the pretty Tidings of Christmas paper from the annual catalog. I love the classic, subtle patterns in this paper pack. I made another version of this card with a bow. Which one do you like better?
For this card I used an Assorted Memories & More card as the base and a layer of designer series paper that measures 4″ by 6″. I decided to cut it in half lengthwise so that you would see more of it behind the focal point. The mini ruffled ribbon was used to “bridge the gap”.
This trick also helps you save on ribbon and that also means you save more money that you can put towards more stamps! Don’t you just love how my brain works?
Monochromatic Card with a Pop of Red
I love the elegance of a white Christmas card but the pop of red is like a cardinal in the snow. Beautiful! This is a Z-fold card. I used For Unto Us stamp set for the sentiment on the front of the card. This is the same stamp set I am using for my Gingerbread & Peppermint class which you can read all about here.
Another Tidings of Christmas Hybrid Card
This next card also uses the Tidings of Christmas paper from the annual catalog, you can find it on page 133.
Hybrid Embossing Folder and Chalk
I finally got a chance to play with my new chalk. You can find it in the annual catalog. I took a paring knife and scrape off a little of the two green chalks in the collection. I inked up the embossed and cut frame with Versamark and then I used Q-tips (cotton swabs) to apply the chalk to the frame. You could do it without the Versamark but then your colours would be more muted. For some of the greenery I mixed the two colours together for a third green.

There is no need to remember which plates to use for which function. I also use the Hybrid Embossing Folder to demonstrate this machine, so it is worth taking a look at.
